The
tooth/teeth are prepared by reducing it’s size around the outside to make room
for the crown of your bridge. If the crown is gold a minimum amount can be shaved off because
the gold can be fairly thin. If the crown is white or porcelain more tooth must
be shaved to make room.
Your tooth/teeth have been shaped and prepared for your new
bridge.
Impressions of this tooth/teeth have been taken and a model of your teeth
has been prepared. This stone replica of your tooth/teeth is made up to
determine your natural bite.

After your tooth/teeth have been prepared
a “temporary” bridge is made to protect this area
and keep it covered for about two weeks while the bridge is being
fabricated by the lab.
The
temporary can feel a little rough and sensitive to hot and cold because we
don’t want the temporary touching near the gums.
This temporary is than adjusted to fit your bite.
This temporary is cemented with soft paste so that it can be easily
removed afterward.
PLEASE follow these
precautions:
| Be
careful not to bite your lip, cheek or tongue while numb. |
| Please avoid chewing for 30 minutes
after placement to allow the temporary cement to "set". |
| Avoid
hot drinks so you don’t burn yourself and eat only soft foods while numb.

| Take
a mild analgesic (Tylenol™. Advil™, etc) as long as there is no medical
contradiction based upon your medical history.
|
| To help with discomfort or swelling
rinse your mouth 3xd with warm salt water. (1tsp. of
salt in 8oz of water), |
| Keep
this area clean to maintain tissue compatibility (the contour of the
prosthesis must allow the surrounding tissue to conform to a natural,
healthy position)
|
| Be
careful about chewing toffees, gum, grainy rolls and tough steak in this
area
|
| Brush
at least twice a day using a soft toothbrush and toothpaste with fluoride.
Be sure to brush carefully around the temporary and take extra care
to thoroughly clean this area
|
| Brush around the area with a
proxybrush
|
| Floss
very carefully around this area at least once a day
|
| Use
an alcohol free, antibacterial mouth rinse like Breath Rx™ once to twice a
day
|
| Avoid
eating curry it may turn the temporary bridge bright yellow or orange.
Smoking can stain the temporary
|
| If
the temporary bridge becomes loose between visits, PLEASE place the
temporary back on your tooth IMMEDIATELY ! |
| Try a small tube of denture adhesive paste and place a small amount in the crown
on the bridge and place it back on your tooth. Also try Dent Temp™ or Tempenol™ as a
temporary adhesive. Do NOT use
ordinary household glue.

Once again REPLACING THE TEMPORARY BRIDGE IMMEDIATELY
IS VERY IMPORTANT! It only
takes a short time for teeth to move if the temporary is not put back into its
proper position. This could affect
the final restoration significantly causing it to not fit and may necessitate
new impressions and a great deal of time.
If
you cannot replace the temporary bridge yourself, put it in a safe place and call
us. We will be happy to recement it
for you.
It is important that you
keep your appointments so the condition of this area does not change before treatment is completed which can result in the permanent
bridge not fitting and requiring a lot of adjustments and chair time.
