Here the tooth is opened to allow the pus and infection to drain from the abscessStep 1:

An opening is made into tooth

The decay is removed to expose the pulpal tissue (the tooth's soft core, your tooth's nerve center) and allow access into the canals.

A pocket of pus (abscess) has formed at the tip of the tooth's root.

 This diseased pulp and infection must be cleaned out with special files.

The canals are cleaned with precision, detail and careStep 3

The canals are cleaned and shaped. This may be completed in a single visit or require several visits depending on the health of the tooth and the access to the tip of the root.

Medicine is placed in the canals and a temporary filling may be placed to see how the tooth reactsStep 4

(A temporary filling may be placed to protect the tooth between appointments  Later, the temporary filling is removed)-this step is no longer needed at our office

The pulp chamber and root canal's) permanently filled and sealed to prevent bacteria from entering  completing the root canal.

When all the canals are infection free and clean a filling is placed.  It is extremely important that a crown be placed next to protect your investment.Step 5

The missing tooth structure is replaced with a filling and the tooth is returned to function. with a crown to restore the tooth to its natural structure and appearance *
