INSTRUCTIONS
FOR HOME CARE FOLLOWING APICOECTOMY
You have just had surgery on the root of your
tooth.
WHAT
YOU SHOULD EXPECT
 | Oozing
of blood for the first 24 hours
|
 | Swelling
and minor discomfort may be experienced. If
surgery was performed in the lower jaw, a tingling of the lower lip is possible
due to stretching of the nerve supply in this area
|
 | Facial
discoloration may be present for up to 10 days following surgery.
This is a normal part of the healing process and will gradually disappear
|
 | The
gums may recede, making your teeth look longer after surgery. The gum tissue between the teeth will look different.
Even though healing occurs rapidly, gum re-contouring occurs over weeks
to months

It is important that you return for a post-operative
visit within 5-7 days to remove the stitches and evaluate the healing.
Healing should be further evaluated
at one month and within a year
after the surgery.
Thus you need to
make your next appointment in one month and we will send you a recare card for
your one-year follow up appointment. There is no fee for these evaluation
appointments and they are an important part of your care.
