All of our dental assistants continue to take additional
training so that they can perform more complex functions. They
are referred to as "expanded duty dental
assistants".
We have monthly
training sessions for our staff to learn new dental techniques and procedures
and they frequently attend the following continuing education programs.

December 2004
Dr. Peterson and staff members attended a workshop in
Denver on Periodontal Disease Updates.
Dr. Peterson and our treatment plan coordinator
attended a workshop in Denver about comprehensive dentistry and case
presentation.

November 2004
We completed the Dental Emergency program for Dental
Offices. We are working on establishing our DNR policy. We
reviewed our HIPAA policies and completed more actions to ensure the
safety of our patients health information.
Our staff completed an in-office OSHA workshop. We
evaluated our office according to the new OSHA standards. We also
watched "If Saliva Were Red". All staff members passed the OSHA
test with flying colors..good job staff!

All staff participated in a continuing education program
in a amalgam video produced by the American Dental Association.
September 2004
Jessica successfully completed the Coronal Polishing
Class through Creighton University Dental School.
Dr. Peterson and staff attended a day two day workshop
through the West District Dental
Association at Fort
Robinson.
Dr.
Peterson attended a continuing education program in Grand Island on
Geriatric Dentistry. Attendance at this workshop provided
information to help us better serve our older patients.

Dr. Peterson attended the Nebraska Dental Association
meeting in Lincoln. He also attended the first ever Nebraska Dental
Health Forum where speakers from all over the United States came to
address the dental health needs of the underserved population in our
state.

Control OSHA Regulations and on our new office water purifying system.

Staff in-service on the new Infection Control regulations
for dental offices from CDC was provided to each staff member.
Each member was given current research on a specific area of these new
regulations to read and give an oral presentation to the other members
of the team on their specific area of study.

New CDC guidelines were read, reviewed and discussed
with staff. Research was done in current journals and articles
provided by the state to determine changes that need to occur in our
office to keep us current and updated in this area.
