If you are having problems related to your oral health due to cancer treatment involvement, don't wait call us or contact us on line 24 hours a day

Call us when.......

Your doctor, dentist, dietitian, dental assistant and dental hygienist are members of your cancer care team.  They are dedicated to helping you through this difficult time. When do you contact them about problems with our mouth?

Here are some guidelines to help you deal with these issues.  Call them when:

You first notice one or more of these mouth problems:

-Sore mouth or throat: rinse several times a day with 1/4 tsp of baking soda and 1/8 tsp salt in 1 cup of warm water .  Follow with plain water. Or use BreathRX.  Ask you team for medicines for the pain

          -Dry mouth

-Infections: Call right away when you see a sore, swelling, bleeding or a sticky white film in your mouth.

-Eating Problems: Medicines can be used to numb the pain from mouth sores.   See a dietitian to see which foods can be chosen that are easy to swallow.

-Bleeding: Avoid flossing the area that is bleeding, but floss the other areas.  Use a very soft toothbrush and soften the bristles more in warm water. If you continue to bleed call your dentist.

-Stiffness in chewing muscles: Three times a day, open and close your mouth as far as you can without pain.  Repeat 20 times.

-Vomiting: Rinse you mouth after vomiting with Breath RX or with 1/8 tsp baking soda in 1 cup of warm water.

-Cavities: Brush you teeth after every meal and before bedtime.  Try fluoride gel in a tray at night.
