There are two types of bad breath.

This study confirms that for patients with gingivitis who brush and floss routinely, the adjunctive use of an EO-containing mouthrinse provides a clinically significant and meaningful additional benefit in reducing plaque and gingivitis. An EO-containing mouthrinse is an effective adjunct to regular brushing and flossing. Therefore, the BFEO regimen can be beneficial for patients with gingival inflammation

January 2001 of J.A.D.A. "Anticalculus efficacy of an antiseptic mouthrinse containing zinc chloride" by Charles, Cronin, Conforti, Dembling, Petrone and McGuire Vol.132 No1. Their study used essential oil mouthrinse containing zinc chloride in addition to brushing twice a day on subjects that had developed moderate amounts of calculus. It was shown the zinc/chloride mouthrinse statistically significantly reduced calculus formation.
